It may have come a little later than usual, but Take-Two Interactive has announced the Legend Edition cover star for this year’s edition of 2K’s famed NBA gaming series. As it happens, NBA 2K18 Legend Edition will have none other than the legendary Shaquille O'Neal gracing the cover when the game releases on September 19.
This is certainly not going to be the first time that Shaq has appeared on the cover of NBA 2K games, but this will be his maiden appearance on the Legends cover. The NBA Hall of Fame inductee will be the star featured on both versions of the Legends covers- the Standard one and Gold. The publishers also released the cover art for both the editions, and we see O’Neal in all his glory during his Lakers and Minami Heat.
Shaq had earlier appeared on the cover of NBA 2K6 and NBA 2K7. His long-standing association with the series along with a world-class career have evidently gone into the latest honor, and the man is understandably happy about it. “I want to thank NBA 2K for their continuous support of my basketball and broadcast career. I’m excited to be on the cover of the NBA 2K18 Legend Edition, and I hope my fans have a blast playing it up big man style and re-creating my most legendary in-game moments!”
Like all special editions, the Legends versions will also have some extra goodies included, both in-game and physical. These will be different for the standard and Gold versions and will include things like in-game currency, trading cards, posters, regular updates, and more. Those who pre-order the Legend Edition will also get early access to the game on September 15.
Besides NBA, Shaquille O’Neal might also have an association with 2K’s other noted upcoming sports simulation title, WWE 2K18. You see, O’Neal already has a connection with WWE wrestling, and we have seen him facing off against Big Show inside the ring at the WrestleMania 32. But while there were plans for the next edition of a showdown to watch out for between the heavyweight and Shaq, it was shelved for certain reasons. But thanks to Shaq’s contract with 2K, perhaps the publishers would bring the two together in the upcoming WWE 2K game?
